Helena Nelson, award-winning essayist and poet, is also a college tutor, teaching Communication, English and Creative Writing. She is the founder of HappenStance Press, publisher of a series of poetry chapbooks and the chapbook review magazine Sphinx. Her career as
a writer spans twenty-five years, and includes criticism, short fiction,
journalism and poetry reviews. She has authored, edited and contributed to
a range of educational and training materials for traditional,
correspondence and e-learning. Helena has written widely on poetry and poets, including monographs on Norman Cameron, W.H. Davies and Robert Nye for the Scribners British Writers series (NY). Her own poems have appeared in a wide range of magazines and anthologies, and her published collections include Mr and Mrs Philpott on holiday in Auchterawe and Other Poems (Kettillonia), and Starlight on Water, (Rialto Press), which was a joint first-prize winner of the Jerwood Aldeburgh First Collection prize 2003. Helena was a finalist in the BBC & Arts Council First Verse Award in 2002 and won the Keats-Shelley Memorial Prize for an essay on Keats in 2000. A popular reader and workshop facilitator in both England and Scotland, she is regularly featured in the webzine Snakeskin. She has been supporting writers online since 1999. |
